The Cardiac Rehabilitation Network of Ontario (CRNO) is a provincial multi-disciplinary association of professionals dedicated to the rehabilitation of individuals with cardiac disease and the prevention of cardiac disease. The CRNO will advance the mission of the Canadian Association of Cardiac Rehabilitation (CACR) in the province of Ontario to provide expertise and leadership in the field. It promotes the highest standards of excellence and acts as a resource to the Provincial Government, professionals, organizations, and the general public of Ontario.
It is an advocate for the patient through the advancement of health care services in Ontario to include the development of a publicly funded network of multifactoral Cardiac Rehabilitative Services integrated within the network of cardiac care services for the province of Ontario.
The 21-month "Ontario Cardiac Rehabilitation Pilot Project", launched by the Ministry of Health in February 2001, has concluded that the expansion of cardiac rehabilitation services across the province can save lives and reduce costs for the healthcare system.
The Pilot showed that a standardized model of cardiac rehabilitation could be implemented as a provincial network across different regions of the province. Referral to cardiac rehabilitation after a patient had been in hospital following a cardiac event produced significant improvements in their cardiac health. A patient's risk of experiencing a cardiac event or dying was significantly reduced. This would reduce hospital readmission rates and produce substantial cost savings for the health-care system.
